The Life of HAROLD RICHARD WALKER

Harold Walker, 76, died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 22 at Richardson Funeral Home in Carlisle.  Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Harold lived most of his married life on 40 acres just southeast of Carlisle and moved into Carlisle in August 2001.  He attended Carlisle Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder.  Harold had been a member of the Carlisle Lions Club and held offices of VP and President, was an instructor for Iowa Hunter Safety and also participated in the Big Brothers program.  He enjoyed square dancing, camping, visiting friends and riding horses.  On vacations from A-E Dairie, Harold would work as a mounted patrol at the Iowa State Fair.  He retired from A-E in 1990 after 30+ years of employment.

Harold is survived by his wife, M. Ellen; son, Charles; granddaughters, Shannon Walker and Shawntel (Danny Paris); great-grandchildren, Logan Michael Walker and Lilliana J. Paris; brother, John (Twyla) Walker; sister, Almeda Briggs (Jim Halterman); sister-in-law, Louise; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Walter; mother, Flo; sister, Margaret; and brothers, Paul (Dorothy) and Chester.

Visitation with the family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Carlisle Christian Church Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was started by Harold and Ellen in October 2002 and January 2003.
