The Life of PHILLIP COOPER JOHNSON

Phillip Cooper Johnson, 64, of the 3000 block of Twana Drive died of a heart ailment Tuesday at University Hospitals in Iowa City.  Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, of which he was a member.  Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born in Mount Pleasant and had lived in Des Moines 34 years.  He was self-employed in labor relations with the Iowa Industrial Council in Des Moines.  He was a Marine veteran and a member of the YMCA, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Scottish Rite Consistory and Acanthus Masonic Lodge.  He was an avid Iowa State sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Brad of Grimes and Monty of Johnston; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Caldwell-Raddatz Hickman Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to YMCA Partners with Youth, US Marine Corps Scholarship Fund or his church.
