The Life of HARLIN GENE SPECK

Services for Harlin G. Speck of Prole will be at 11 a.m. Thurday at Hamilton''s Funral Home Chapel in Des Moines and burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery there.   Mr. Speck, 69, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of a heart ailment following surgery.

Born in Des Moines, he was a lifelong resident of Polk and Warren counties and had been a Coast Guard Veteran of World War II.  He retired after eight years as chief of security for Meredith Corp. and formerly was a sergeant in the Des Moines Police Department.  He was a member of the Des Moines Police Burial Association, Iowa Chiefs of Police, Iowa State Police Association, Amerian Legion and Lions Club.

Among survivors are his wife, Erma; two daughters, Linda Shaver of Prole and Janice Connelly of New Virginia; a son, Donald; and two brothers, Ralph and Ernie all of Des Moines; a sister, Charlotte Gilman of Slater; and ten grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes or American Heart Associations.
