The Life of HARLAN W RIGBY

Harlan W. Rigby, 81, of 504 S.W. Southlawn Drive, Ankeny, died of cancer Tuesday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, of which he was a member.  Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Rigby was born in Mechanicsville and lived in Ankeny 34 years.  He retired from Polk County Farm Bureau and was formerly a teacher, coach and principal, having served in schools in Bagley, Belmond, Coon Rapids, Ida Grove and Greenfield.  He was a member of Ankeny Lions Club.

Among survivors are his wife, Evelyn; two sons, James of St. Louis and Craig of Des Moines; two daughters, Mary Hackney of Ladysmith, Wis., and Roxanne Hugley of Des Moines; a brother, Alfred of Anaheim, Calif,; a sister, Elva Helmer of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and six gradnchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ankeny Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Singers at his church.
