The Life of KENNETH EUGENE KLINE

Retired Des Moines Police Capt., Kenneth E. Kline, who underwent two heart transplants in about 5 1/2 years, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center.  He was 62.  He made his home at The Plaza, 300 Walnut St.

Kline was born in Des Moines and lived here all his life except for six years in the 1970s when he managed property in Clear Lake.

He was a member of Windsor Heights Lutheran Church; Des Moines Police Burial Association; Iowa State Policeman''''s Association; Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Iowa Watercolor Society.  He was a graduate of East High School.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; a son, Mark of Franktown, CO; a daughter, Cynthia Pederson of Des Moines; his mother, Rose Kline of Des Moines; two brothers, Jack of Naperville, IL, and Dale of Elgin, IL; a sister, Rosemary Everett of Crystal Lake, Il; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church with burial at Highland Memory Gardens.  Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton''''s Funeral Home.  The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, Mercy Medical Center Transplant Program, or the East High Alumni Foundation.
