The Life of GEORGE A PATTON

George A. Patton, 96, passed away Monday, May 17, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.  Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 19 at the Ankeny Funeral Home.

George was born January 7, 1908 in Denver, CO.  He was a member of Ankeny Christian Church and a Masonic Lodge member for over 50 years.  He had traveled all over the United States, Europe and many other countries.  He had also worked a variety of jobs.

As a young man, George worked for a grain elevator, a grocery store and a filling station.  He worked twelve yeras as a tool and dye tradesman in Kansas City, MO.  George also owned and operated a meat locker and grocery store in Cantil, MO for eleven years.  In 1954, he sold the locker/store and moved to Fairfax, IA to open a paint store.  George expanded this business into fabrics, sewing machines, scissor sharpening and photography.  He continued to practice his trade repairing sewing machines throughout retirement.

George is survived by his wife, Beulah; daughter, Lavon; grandsons, Mike and Dan; and great-grandson, Dakota.  He was preceded in death by his parents, George A and Nannie Patton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
