The Life of IRENE HUPP COZAD

Irene Cozad, 90, of Eldora and formerly of Des Moines, passed away from natural causes on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Private graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 14, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines with Major Keith Petrie officiating. Irene was born April 21, 1916 in Chariton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Samuel Harrison and Bessie Blanche (Scott) Hupp. She was united in marriage to Roy Alvin Cozad and they lived their entire married life in Des Moines. They celebrated fifty years together on May 18, 1985. Irene was a long-time cook for the Naomi Wright Day Care Center in Des Moines and was well known among family and friends for her homemade quilts, cakes and Christmas cookies. Irene was a wonderful mother and "nana" who was loved by all. Irene is survived by a sister, Mable Thomas of Des Moines and formerly of Chariton; a daughter, Wanda Ortiz of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Renee (Dave) Hoyt of Eldora, Rick (Sandi) Ortiz of Menlo, Rod Ortiz of Des Moines, Richelle Ortiz of Des Moines, Toby (Lucy) Cozad of Van Meter, Judy Cozad, Donna Cozad and Allen Cozad, all of Des Moines, Scott Cozad of Ankeny; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ralph Hupp; a half-sister, Flossie Sybert; her husband, Roy; and her son, Wayne. Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens is handling arrangements.
