The Life of ALEXANDER HAMPTON EDMONDS

Alexander Hampton Edmonds, 42, of 682 37th St. died of cancer Monday at home.  Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church, of which he was a member.  Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The Rev. Mr. Edmonds was born in Halifax City, VA, and had lived in Des Moines for three years.  He was a correctional trades leader at the Mitchellville Correctional Institute for Women and an Associate Pastor at Union Baptist Church.  He had been a member of Jack and Jill, Inc. and the prison ministry.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Korahna Edmonds of Des Moines and Renay Edmonds of South Boston, VA; four sons, Calvin, serving with the US Navy, and Demetrius, Alexander and Floyd, all of South Boston; his mother, Sally Johnson of Reidsville, NC; four brothers, Dettra Lee of Brooklyn, NY, Butch of Washington, DC, and William and Henry, both of Reidsville, NC; and three sisters, Mary Oliver of Danville, VA, Eleanor Valentine of Axton, VA, and Zina Slade of Reidsville, NC.

Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Estes and Son Funeral Home.
