The Life of DORTHA RHOADES

Dortha Rhoades, 86, of Chariton, formerly of Des Moines, died June 24, 2011, in her home. Dortha was born May 9, 1925, in Des Moines, to William and Bertha Boggs. She was the seventh daughter of eight children. During WWII, the family moved to Oregon for two years. When they moved back to Des Moines, she attended Lincoln High School and was an assistant on the School Nurse’s staff. On February 13, 1944, Dortha married her soul mate, Floyd Rhoades. They met at the Midtown Roller rink. From the time they met they were inseparable, and after a short engagement they were married. Dortha is survived by her daughter, Floydean (Robert) Post; and sons, James Rhoades and Thomas (Lynn) Rhoades; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; as well as two brothers, Gail and Ronnie Boggs, both of California. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. The family asks for memorials to be sent to Legacy Lodge in Chariton, Iowa.
