The Life of DOROTHY GENEVIEVE JARNAGIN ENGARD

Dorothy Genevieve (Jarnagin) Engard of Clive, IA. Born September 6, 1910 in Wichita, Kansas.

Prior to marriage she was one of the original operators in the Des Moines Telephone System. She was then promoted to instructor when the dial system was introduced.

Dorothy died peacefully at the Adel Assisted Living and Nursing Facility where she received ongoing professional and loving care, and was provided continual and tender health care from Middle River Hospice.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Frank and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her brother Harold Jarnagin; two children, Gary Engard (Debra Turner) of Seattle, WA., and Bill Engard (Eileen) of Clive, IA.; two granddaughters, Michelle (Engard) Engelbrecht of Des Moines, and Stephanie (Engard) Phipps of Altoona; and four great- grandchildren.

In her younger married life she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and participating with her husband in square dancing and bowling. She was an avid gardener, and loved to tend to her and Frank’s flowers, bushes and trees. Above all, she was a loving, caring, and generous human being. (Does this give you a clue that we all think she was incredible?)

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday January 11 at the Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel at 6337 Hickman Road. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 12, at 11 a.m. at Highland Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Adel Assisted Living and Nursing Facility and/or Middle River Hospice.
