The Life of JOHN RAYMER SHATTUCK

John R. Shattuck, 90, joined his wife in heaven Monday, March 21, 2011. John, a lifelong Des Moines resident, was born March 20, 1921, in Chicago, to John and Letitia Shattuck. John served his country in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers, as well as in the National Guard as a Staff Sergeant, where he received numerous decorations and citations including the bronze star. John was a principled businessman and started two small businesses – Shattuck Realty and Shattuck Sod Farms. He was a faithful member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and member of the Kiwanis. He will be remembered for being a devoted husband, for his kindness and generosity to others, for his witty sense of humor, and for being a true gentleman. John is survived by his children, Jim (Tammy) Shattuck, Tom (Jeanne) Shattuck, Ray (Peggy) Shattuck, Karen (Gregg) Hatten, Nancy (Dave) Berg, and Connie (Craig) Anderson; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Jeanne L. Shattuck; one brother and three sisters. A visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with a private family service following.
