The Life of VERNON H JONES
Vernon H. Jones, 95, died Friday, December 17, 2010, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.
Vernon was born January 6, 1915, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was a graduate of Des Moines North High School, class of January, 1934.
He was an accomplished writer, working for two newspapers, writing freelance articles for magazines and screenplays in the early days of television for shows such as Death Valley Days. He served as a cryptographic technician in the armed services in the China Burma Campaign. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service. He was a member of AMVETS and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Anna. Together they enjoyed family times, traveling, gardening and their three beloved dogs, Alex, Boggie and Oscar.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, with visitation from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. preceding the service.
