The Life of MARION RAY THORPE
Ray Thorpe, 87, died Monday, August 24, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Ray was born on September 10, 1921 to Lyle and Velma Thorpe in Sioux City, IA. Ray served in the United States Marines until his honorable discharge in December 1945. He enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family, and Wii bowling. Ray is survived by his children, Cindy (Dustin) Smyth, Lyle (Dee) Thorpe, Marilyn (John) Boyd, Sue Sears and Byron Thorpe; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dale, Byron and Jerry Thorpe. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; sister, Lyla; brother, Jack. Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave, Des Moines. A visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Ray.
