The Life of CLAIR JUNIOR PETERSON

Clair J. Peterson, 83, passed away of a ruptured brain aneurysm and complications on May 13, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Clair was born January 23, 1928, in Shenandoah, Iowa, to Marland and Ruby Peterson. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1945 to 1948. Clair retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1984 after 32 years of service. He was an active member of Highland Park Christian Church for 61 years, and served in many capacities including Deacon, Elder, and Greeter, along with serving on many committees. Clair was recently honored as Deacon Emeritus. He was a 60-year member and Past Master of Auburn Union Park Masonic Lodge. Clair was a member and Past Worthy Patron of Northgate (Auburn) Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

Clair enjoyed traveling with his family, taking photographs of covered bridges and old barns, which he then incorporated into his hobby of painting. He was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed spending many winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, until they returned to Iowa due to health reasons.

Clair is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly; daughters, Diane (John) Waalk and Karen (Dean) Dawson; four grandchildren, Jeff (Kari) Dawson, Melissa Waalk, Jon (Brandy) Dawson, and Amanda (Andrew) Lee; and eight great-grandchildren, Brett Dawson, Aleena Lee, David Dawson, Joslyn Dawson, Samuel Dawson, Ava Waalk, Aurora Lee and Amelia Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gene and sister, Naomi Gnade.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 NW 6th Drive, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
