The Life of JOSEPH W KNIGHT

Joseph E. Knight, 70, of Des Moines died in the care of his family at home on Monday, April 18, 2011. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn's Chapel where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustin Catholic Church. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery. Joseph Ervin Knight was born on March 11, 1941 in Leavenworth, KS to Joseph Edward and May Harless Knight. He was the owner of Knight Painters, Inc. for 33 years and past state president and member of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America. As an active member of St. Augustin Church, he served as an usher, eucharistic minister and member of the Parish Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree) and a past Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 36. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a skilled woodworker and energetic inventor who enjoyed fixing anything. Joe was devoted to his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Patricia Knight of Des Moines; son, Joseph Knight, Jr., his wife, Elizabeth and their children, Sarah, Alec, Liam and Katie of Washington, IL; son, Christopher, his wife, Nathalie and their son, Thomas of Paris, France; daughter, Trisha Kennedy, her husband, Patrick and their children, Anna, Erin and Michael of Ankeny; son, John, his wife, Theresa and their children, Sophia and Lily of Des Moines; and two sisters, Betty (Robert) Pierron and Marilyn (Don) Murray of Leavenworth, KS. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa Care Services, St. Augustin Church or the Knights of Columbus No. 10558.
