The Life of FREDRICK EARL VOITEL

Fredrick Earl Voitel, 101, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Altoona Nursing and Rehab. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Fredrick was born February 27, 1908 in Creston, Iowa to William and Alice Voitel. He was employed for 24 years with Swift and Company, and 23 years with the State of Iowa in the Department of History. He retired in 1976. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and bowling. He was a member of the Waveland Park Masonic Lodge #654, The Des Moines Consistory, The Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, and a charter member of Union Park Lodge #658, where he was also a past master. Fredrick is survived by his sister, Ruth Zeroni of Grand Junction; three grandchildren, Kay, Mike and Pat; numerous great-grandchildren; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marie Tait; his brother, Harold; his daughter, Mary Loraine Conor; and his wives: Ruth and Mary. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Botanical Center in loving memory of Fredrick.
