The Life of FRED ECKROSH

Fred Eckrosh, 96, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10am Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Fred was born in Polk City and lived in the Des Moines area most of his adult life. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Fred worked as a restaurant owner and manager prior to managing Babe's Restaurant for his close friend, Babe Bisignano for over 50 years. He enjoyed playing cards, golf, Thoroughbred Racing, Iowa Cubs baseball and spending time with friends. Fred was a founding member of the Young Phoenician Club and was past president of the Midwest Federation of American Syrian Lebanese Clubs. He was instrumental in fundraising activities for St. Jude's Hospital and several other charities. Fred is survived by his daughter, Janie (Ron) Rouse of Des Moines, two grandsons, Tom Plowman and Jeff Eide, both of Des Moines; six grandsons, Josh, Alec and Drew Plowman, and Jonah, Jonathan and Jacob Eide. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Monday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel where a vigil service will be held at 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
