The Life of WALTER C LEPELTAK

Walter C. Lepeltak of Urbandale died on Tuesday, January 1 at Mercy Hospice of Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, at Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Walt was born on February 8, 1926, in Raritan, IL to Cornelius and Gladys (Hoekje) Lepeltak. He was raised in Marion, NY where upon graduation from high school, he joined the Air Force in 1944. In 1949, Walt graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering, which lead him to a 31 year career, as an engineer for Norwestern Bell. In 1950, Walt married Betty Ann Mulcahy and in 1956 son John C was born. Walt and Betty shared 57 years of marriage together. Walt was a member of Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church, Auburn Masonic Lodge, Des Moines Consistory, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the Telephone Pioneers. In retirement, Walt enjoyed golfing and bowling with buddies, fishing and hunting, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren. Walt is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Mulcahy Lepeltak; Urbandale, son John (Tracy) of Waukee; grandchildren Leslie and Steven of Wuikee; sisters Mary Ann Schultze (Bill) of Grand Rapids, MI, Alma Ruth Finch (John) of Patrick, SC, and Linda Atkin of Valrico, FL; sisters-in-law Elaine Sorensen of Urbandale, Janice Mulcahy of Des Moines and Beth Mulcahy of Cedar Rapids; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Cornelius and brother Paul. Memorial contributions may be made to Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church and Mercy Hospice of Johnston.
