The Life of SYLVIA LORENE WICKER
Sylvia Lorene Wicker, 91, passed away at Union Park Health Services on June 4, 2011. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the funeral home followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Sylvia was born September 21, 1919 to Dessie and Loren McKern. She graduated from East High School and married her junior high sweetheart, Ellis Wicker. Sylvia retired in 1989 from Drake University as the secretary to the Vice President of Student Life. She was a 79 year member of Capitol Hill Christian Church and was also a member of Auburn Eastern Star.
Sylvia was devoted to her family and loved to spend time camping, motorcycling and playing cards with them.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Rich) Oxenford; grandchildren, Kim Oxenford (Shannon Kindred) of Des Moines, Kathryn (Brian) Blackwelder of Arizona and Jake (Sara) Oxenford of Des Moines; two great-granddaughters, Lydia and Mallory Blackwelder; and grand-nephew, David Dick of Avon Lake.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Helen Dick and Geraldine McKern; and her nephew, Talbert Dick.
