The Life of CHARLES AARON CANTRELL

Charles A. Cantrell, 91, passed into God’s hands on Friday, October 22, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 26th at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church with burial following at Highland Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Charles was born in Batesville, AR on February 20, 1919 to Eva Olive (Roach) and Floyd Cantrell. He met and married Blondena (Holder) in Walnut Ridge, AR. He was stationed in Des Moines as an MP after serving in Alaska during WWII. He later went on to be employed by Bookey Packing Company, Delavan Manufacturing and retired from Des Moines Water Works. Charles and his wife Dena were 60 year residents of the Southside. They were members of the Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church during that time. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Blondena of 50 years, and 7 siblings. Charles is survived by his brother Warren Richard Cantrell of Des Moines, IA; three children, Charles A (Joyce ) Cantrell Jr. of Davenport, FL, Yvonne (George) Peterson of Henryville, IN and Duane F. (Suzanne) Cantrell, of Pleasant Hill, IA. 10 Grandchildren; Charles Cantrell III, Anita Cantrell, Richard Cantrell, Troy Peterson, Kimberly (Peterson) Franklin, Kristin Cantrell, Daniel Cantrell, Maggie Crabb, Jacob Hill and Henry Hill, and 10 Great Grandchildren. Charlie was a great man and will be missed dearly by family and friends. Memorial Contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice.
