The Life of ELLEN MARCELLA HUSS
Ellen M. Huss, 102,went home to be with Jesus on Friday, May 9, 2008, after a brief illness.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm. on Monday, May 12th at Westover Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13th at the funeral home with graveside services to follow at the Highland Memory Gardens.
Ellen was born on January 9, 1906 to Edwin and Eva Davis at Lexington, IL. She was the eldest of six children.
When she was a small child, her family moved to Iowa and farmed in Story County. As a young girl growing up on a farm, she experienced many tasks involved in a farming operation.
Ellen graduated from Ames High School in 1924, then worked in the agricultural department at Iowa State College.
She married Dewey Huss in 1932 and when their first child was born in 1937, she became a homemaker for the next 22 years.
In 1959, she went to work for Drake University as a secretary in educational services from which she retired in 1976.
During much of her life, she was invovled in various church activities.
Ellen is survived by a son, Noel (Zelda); a daughter, Marilyn; three grandchildren: David (Kristin), Mark and Deborah Murphy (Kelly); six great-grandchildren; brothers, Orville and Eldon Davis; nieces, nephews and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the endowment fund of First United Methodist Church, 10th and Pleasant Street, Des Moines Iowa.
