The Life of GEORGE DUANE HANSON

George Hanson, 74, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at his home in Des Moines. He was born September 20, 1935, in Madison, KS, to Edna and Henry Hanson, and he grew up on a farm in Greenwood County, KS. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, feeding squirrels and birds, jigsaw puzzles, traveling, and spending time with his family and granddogs. George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Velda; daughters, Sherry (Daniel) Scarpino and Deb Krause; son, Bruce (Lori) Hanson; grandsons, Sean and Eric Rathert and Dustin (Desiree) Brown; great- granddaughters, Zoë and Adrianna; sisters, Virginia Edwards of Wichita, KS, and Judy (Chuck) Ferguson of Topeka, KS; and uncle, Bill (Lois) Hanson. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers-in-law Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, May 10, 2010, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. A visitation with the family present will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 9, 2010, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the local Animal Rescue League in loving memory of George.
