The Life of PAUL FRANCIS BLISS

Paul Francis Bliss, 95, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at his daughter’s home in Blue Grass, IA.

Paul was born May 24, 1915, in Centertown, MO. His parents were Thomas and Josephine (Weaver) Bliss. He married Mildred (Peterson) Bliss, August 30, 1942, in Sedalia, MO. He spent the next 3 years during World War II in the South Pacific as a 2nd Lt., earning a purple heart. On his return, they moved to Des Moines and lived on the northeast side for the next 60 years.

Paul spent his career starting in 1948 working for Jefferson Lines driving buses from Des Moines to Kansas City and places beyond. He retired after 37 years and nearly 2 million accident free miles. In 2008 Paul and Mildred sold their home and moved to Davenport to be closer to family.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughter, Patricia, and son-in-law, James I. Johnson, of Blue Grass, IA; grandchildren, Ryan J. Johnson of Coralville, IA and Regen Bliss Johnson of Davenport; and one great granddaughter, Jordyn Bliss Johnson; his sister, Georgia and Charles O’Neal, of Alexander, AR; plus several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
