The Life of DONALD EDWARD COOK

Donald E. Cook, 84, died Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines. He was born February 8, 1926 in Des Moines to Roy and Maude (Keagle) Cook and lived in Des Moines his whole life. He graduated from North High School in January 1944. Mr. Cook was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired as Captain of the Des Moines Fire Department in 1985 after serving 32 years. He was a member of the American Legion and AMVETS. Donald is survived by his brothers, Jim and Bob (Marilyn) Cook of Des Moines; sons, Don (Linda) and Curtis (Terri) Cook both of Kentucky; daughter, Christene (David) Airy of Indiana; Teri (Barry) Mabon and Bob and Gary Thomas all of Des Moines. Mr. Cook was devoted to his grandchildren, Justin and Mat Cook, Sarah Starr, Todd and Brett Airy, Angela Hernandez, Amanda Foss, Robert “Buster” Thomas, and Heather Clair. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, William “Billy” Cook. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 13, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Bright Kavanagh House, 3000 Easton Blvd., Des Moines, Iowa 50317, in loving memory of Donald E. Cook.

It's so hard to believe you have been missing from our lives for almost 6 years now. We miss you so much. So many memories flood my mind and though I try holding them back, I admit tears flow. I love you with all my heart and soul. Hugs and Kisses
