The Life of PAULINE MAE BRIGGIE BRADY

After a short illness, Pauline M. Brady, 95, passed away August 6, 2011, at Ramsey Village in Des Moines. Pauline was born November 28, 1915, in Des Moines, the first of Frank and Stella Armbruster’s three daughters. She graduated from East High School, and worked as a jacket inspector at the Ordnance Plant in Ankeny during WWII. Pauline also worked as a supervisor at the telephone company, as well as at National Handcraft and Younkers Store for Homes. Pauline married Irvin H. Briggie in 1952, and they had two daughters, Linda and Barbara. Irvin died in 1959, and in 1961 she married Everett L. Brady. He died in 1977. Pauline is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Sharpe) Briggie-Smith and Linda (Larry) Boice; sisters, Beulah Findley and Chloris Armbruster; niece Patty Underwood and nephew Gary Findley; and seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands. Pauline loved to travel both in the United States and abroad, including trips to Ireland, Austria and Canada. She also took part in a Friendship Force of Greater Des Moines trip to Mexico in 1989. She enjoyed ceramics, crafts and playing cards. She was active in the life of Highland Park Lutheran Church, of which she was a member for more than 50 years, participating in Bible studies and volunteering. She was an ardent follower of the teachings of Billy Graham. Pauline loved life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, good food and an Irish joke. She was caring and compassionate and believed in helping others. She was blessed with good health and a good sense of humor, and will be missed by all who knew her. We would like to thank the caregivers at Renaissance Well Care, Visiting Nurses, Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Wesley Acres, 3801 Grand, Ramsey Village, and her friends at Luther Park Apartments for their care and loving kindness. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2011, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 815 High Street, Des Moines, with inurnment at Highland Memory Gardens. Flowers may be sent to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry Network (www.dmreligious.org).
