The Life of DONALD BEVERLY WILCOX

Donald Wilcox, 88, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 in Des Moines. Donald was born on October 28, 1920 to Harry B. and Julia Wilcox. The family moved to What Cheer, Iowa, in 1925, where he graduated from High School as Valedictorian in 1938. He attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and worked for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. He joined the Army Signal Corps and with his communication skills served the Navy on Admiral Nimitz's staff (CINCPAC) at Pearl Harbor, HI, during World War II. In 1981 he retired from American Republic Insurance (Vice President, Underwriting) after 31 years with that company. He was a member of Union Park United Methodist Church. Donald is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geneva; two sons; Alan, of Des Moines and Carl (Martha) of North Augusta, South Carolina; a sister, Gladys Bloodworth of Des Moines; and many nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, R.E. Wilcox, and sister, Bernice Reed. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2009, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. A visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Park United Methodist Church in Des Moines.>>
