The Life of RUTH LILLIAN DUKELOW

A memorial service for Ruth Dukelow, who died on Sunday, May 15, 2011, will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Heartland Presbyterian Church in Clive. Ruth was born on November 3, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph and Rachel Olson. On September 11, 1941 she and Howard Dukelow were married and together they raised four daughters. Howard passed away in 2006 after 65 years of marriage. Ruth was a homemaker and partner with her husband in service to congregations in Glen Ullin and Cando, North Dakota; Potosi, Wisconsin; and in Tipton, Missouri Valley, Des Moines, Battle Creek, Greene and Waterloo, Iowa. Howard and Ruth retired to Des Moines in 1990. Ruth was a 50 year member of P.E.O. She loved to sew, cook and bake for her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters; Kathleen Dukelow of Urbandale, Helen Gronewold (Keith) of Eustis, Nebraska, Mary Rhoton (John) of Park Ridge, Illinois, and Margaret Van Houten (Douglas Churchill) of West Des Moines. Her nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren each brought her joy. Ruth is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Harriet Dukelow and Kay Olson. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Melvin Olson, Clarence Olson and Ernest Olson; sisters, Evelyn Bolish and Gladys Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvin Community Good Samaritan Fund.
