The Life of DALE LOVRIEN LEGG

Dale L. Legg, 95, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2009 at Ankeny Christian Church, 2506 SW 3rd Street, Ankeny. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens following the service. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Dale was born on July 30, 1913 in Everett, Washington. He graduated from Peoria High School, Peoria, IL and attended Eureka College in IL. Following college he lived in Des Moines for 6 years then moved to Seattle, WA for 8 years, where he worked at the Naval shipyard during WWII. He settled back in Des Moines in 1950. On October 9, 1938 he was united in marriage to Doris Hendrickson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Dale built two houses, including the one his family presently lives in. He worked as a draftsman for Economy Forms Corp from 1952 until his retirement in1978. Dale and Doris loved living as winter Texans in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, where Dale would take his daily walks and also help out in the office of the park where they stayed. Dale enjoyed writing and wrote and published a book "That Still Small Voice". He also enjoyed painting pictures. Dale was a member of the Ankeny Christian Church and was a Lay minister for the Christian Church (Disciple of Christ) for many years. He enjoyed teaching Sunday school classes and the many years he spent teaching and helping at the Christian Conference Center in Newton. Dale is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Doris; son, David O. Legg and his wife Rosa of Des Moines; two daughters, Deanna Juhl and her husband James K. of Dike, IA and Doreen Leonard and her husband Frederick of West Des Moines; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; his brother, Kenneth of Metamora, IL and his sister, Irene Johnson of Crete, IL. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rodrick, James and Donald and a great grandson, James P. Juhl. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Ankeny Christian Church.
