The Life of LOAL INEZ STEWART

Loal Stewart, 90, passed away January 10, 2010 at Taylor House Hospice from heart disease. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., with visitation two hours prior to the service. Loal was born May 16, 1919 in St. Charles, Iowa; the daughter of James and Amy (Preston) Armstrong. She was a graduate of Ankeny High School in the Class of 1938. Loal married Merle (Buss) Stewart on July 8, 1939 at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. Loal and Merle started their family when son, Ronald Keith was born and then later came daughter, Judith Gail and son, William Lowell. Merle and Loal loved to go dancing in their younger years. And Loal enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and competing in the family racing pool (which she just won for the 2009 season). Loal was a caregiver her entire life. She cared for her in-laws, Olive and William Stewart in their later years and after having raised her own children, she assisted with the care of some of her grandchildren. Loal has always been a good family historian and could remember the dates and details of every family event. She was also an accomplished seamstress and skilled in the arts of embroidery, cross stitch and crochet. Loal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Merle and sisters, Mary Weeks, Kathryn Krantz, and Bonnie Buckroyd. She is survived by son, Ron (Cara) Stewart of Des Moines; daughter, Judy (Larry) Lee of Des Moines; and son, Bill (Barbara) Stewart of Tucson, Arizona. In addition, are her grandchildren: Amy (John) Hunt of Johnston, Don (Kristi) Quijano of West Des Moines, Jerry (Julie Knight) Stewart of Winterset, Chuck (Kelly) Stewart of Maple Valley, Washington, and Andy (Stacy) Stewart of Tucson, Arizona. One brother and sister-in-law, Rex and Darlene Armstrong of Washington, Iowa also survive. Loal was also very proud of her seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She enjoyed recognizing birthdays and attending weddings and always loved a party. Memorial Contributions may be made to Taylor House or the charity of one's choice in Loal's name.
