The Life of THELMA MARIE PARTRIDGE NICHOLS

Thelma M. Nichols, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 04, 2010 at home surrounded by family. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Thelma was born on November 28, 1926 in Maxwell, IA to Richard and Iona Partridge. She attended school and graduated from Farrar High School in 1945. Thelma was united in marriage to Wayne E. Nichols at the Farrar Methodist Church that same year. Thelma accompanied Wayne to live in several Navy Ports throughout the United States while he was in the service. After he served, they made their home in Des Moines where they enjoyed each other’s company for 65 years while raising their family. Thelma had three sons and one daughter. She was a very devoted mother who was always there for her children. Up at the crack of dawn to run paper routes, attend little league games, and carpool to cheerleading activities for Lincoln High School. Thelma also took great pride in her grandchildren. She touched each one deeply with such passionate love and joy. In 1974, Thelma assisted her husband in opening Nichols Controls and Supply. She worked alongside Wayne for 20 years before retiring. After retiring, they spent many winters in Arizona. She always enjoyed watching NBA basketball and cheering on the Cyclones. Those left to honor Thelma’s memory are her husband, Wayne Nichols of West Des Moines, IA; her four children, Richard (Paula) of Pleasant Hill, IA; Ron (Bettye) of Ocean Springs, MS; Eldon (Patty) of Des Moines, IA; and Mary (Tom) Walker of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to Iowa Hospice for their compassionate care. Memorial contributions may be given to Iowa Hospice, 5650 NW Johnston Drive, Suite E, Johnston, IA 50131.
