The Life of EFFIE LENA GREEN
Effie L. (Betty) Green died Sunday, August 8, 2010 of a heart ailment at home, in Des Moines at the age of 84. Betty was born in Des Moines in 1926 to Clara Stark and Herbert Dawson. She attended North High School in Des Moines. In 1942 she married Arthur L. Green of Des Moines, and worked in a variety of jobs over the years as well as being a wife, mother, foster parent, and homemaker. Art and Betty were active members of Capital City Baptist Church for many years, and then in 1991 they moved to Livonia, Missouri where they were active members of the Omaha Baptist Church. They returned to Des Moines in 2008.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Green, to whom she was married for 68 years; four children: Steven (Janet) Green of Des Moines; Gloria (George) Aswegan of Pleasant Hill; Audrey (Michael) Mitchell of New Virginia; and Susan (Jack) Rethmeier of Des Moines; and her brother, Tom Dawson of Norwalk. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Betty was a lively, generous and caring lady, and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family members in Iowa, Missouri, and the Midwest.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 13, 2010 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
