The Life of MILDRED JANICE TIPTON

Mildred Janice Tipton passed away at Trinity Center in Des Moines on August 3, 2011. Janice was born in Guthrie County, Iowa on December 13, 1915, to W. Everett Garwood and Lacy (Wolf) Garwood. She was united in marriage to Charles Reuel Tipton on April 10, 1931. Janice and Charles had two children, Frances Wydena Kirk (Jim) and Lacy DeAnne Chafa (Don) both of Des Moines. She had six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 21 great great-grandchildren and three great great-great-grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy. She especially enjoyed the younger children. Janice lived in the Highland Park area of Des Moines most of her married life, was a member of Rebekah Lodge #181, and was employed by A&P Tea Company for many years where she worked alongside her husband. Charles and Janice loved to travel in their camping trailer and spent a lot of time in the campgrounds with friends around the campfire in the state parks in Iowa. Janice was a resident of Trinity Center for almost seven years where the staff was very loving and affectionately referred to her as Grandma Janie. Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years; a brother, Claire; two grandchildren, Peggy and Charles; and great-grandson, Alison. Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Friday, August 5, 2011, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Center at Luther Park in loving memory of Mildred.
