The Life of ROY HENRY SANSOM
Roy Sansom, 83, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Iles Funeral Homes- Dunn's Chapel, with the family greeting friends one hour prior.
Roy was born on May 11, 1925, in London, England. He moved to the United States with his family and spent most of his life in Des Moines. He proudly served his country in the Navy during WWII on a Submarine in the Atlantic. On July 23, 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorla, and they shared 62 wonderful years. He worked as a precision engineer for Solar Aircraft until 1955, before starting his own painting contractor business. He loved to work on home projects, especially his 1926 Model T Ford, Ezekial. He also enjoyed meeting his many friends at Dahls on Ingersoll, where they regularly ate lunch together. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Roy is survived by his wife, Dorla (Jones); daughter, Marcy Barrick of Urbandale; granddaughter, Courtney (John) Quinn; grandson, Andrew Barrick of Urbandale and great granddaughter, Abbey Wren Quinn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, 5452 NE 22nd St., Des Moines, IA 50313.
