The Life of MICHAEL FRANCIS SCHOMER
Michael F. Schomer, 87, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Union Park Health Services in Des Moines. He was born on October 4, 1923 in Panama, the son of Pete and Josephine (Thielen) Schomer.
Michael served in the United States Navy from 1940-1946. He retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad at the age of 62, after 30+ years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children, Gary (Jodie), David, Bruce (Annie), Don (Julie), Jeanette (Mike) Kirkpatrick, Charlotte (Roger) Jaschke, Lois, Mark-deceased (Michelle), Marcene (Frank) De Stefano; 13 grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters; sister, Jean Schechinger; and his brother, Ralph Schomer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 19, 2011, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Ave., Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011, at the church. There will also be visitation one hour prior to service time on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church or Union Park Health Services - attention: Activities Department, in loving memory of Michael.
