The Life of EVERETT ARTHUR PEAVEY

Captain Everett “Art” Peavey, 99, of Des Moines died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Scottish Rite Park. Private graveside services will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Art was born July 9, 1909 in Faulkton, South Dakota to Nellson and Gertrude Peavey. He was a graduate of Des Moines East High School. Art served in the United States Navy Reserves in 1929 until he was called to active duty in 1941-1954. After serving active duty, he re-joined the Reserves and retired in 1971. Art was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Za Ga Zig Shrine, Des Moines Consistory, Masonic Lodge (Capitol 110), Sword of Bunker Hill Sojourners, Argonne American Legion, International Association of Round Dance Instructors and Past District Coast Guard Commodore. Art worked for KRNT as a radio engineer and was a licensed radio amateur operator for 65 years and held a FCC commercial radio telephone license. He was a member of the Institute of Radio Engineers, Society of Wireless Pioneers, American Radio Relay League and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Art is survived by five nephews; and one niece. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Gladee; his parents and one brother. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park Presbyterian Church in loving memory of Art.
