The Life of BETTY ANN PALMER COOLIDGE

Betty Ann Palmer Coolidge, 88, of Naples, FL, formerly of Des Moines, IA, died March 14, 2003 at home.  She was born in Plattsmouth, Neb.  She was graduated from Roosevelt High School and from Drake University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and was a Quax yearbook beauty.

She was a schoolteacher in Winterset, IA, and in 1938 she married John D. Coolidge of Des Moines.  They lived in Lincoln, Neb., where he was with Miller and Paine Dept. Store, until he began to serve in the US Navy at San Diego''s Naval Base during World War II.

Her family returned to Iowa where she was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Chapter KN, P.E.O. and TTT.  She was an active member of Rotary International as a Rotary Ann and was a Paul Harris Fellow.  She and her husband were honored as Parents of the Year at Drake University in 1964.

She and her family lived in Fort Dodge and Bettendorf, IA., where Mr. Coolidge was branch manager for Younkers.  They lived in West Des Moines when he was manager of Younkers in the Merle Hay Mall.  After retirement, they lived in Naples and in Laguna Hills, CA.  She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Naples.

She is survived by her sons, Richard of Columbia, SC, and David of Naples; her daughter, Jane Kelly of Carlsbad, CA; her sister, Jane Canady Edgington of Windsor Heights, IA., three grandsons, six great-granchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Her husband, John Coolidge, preceded her in death in September of 2002.  The family had a private memorial service for Betty Ann at home in Naples.
