The Life of JOHN D COOLIDGE

John D. Coolidge, 88, of Laguna Hills, CA., died Sept. 28 at home.  He was born in Des Moines, IA.  He was graduated from Roosevelt High School and Drake University.  He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

He married Betty Ann Palmer (daughter of Ethel Claire Dovey and Fred C. Truesdell) in 1938.  They lived in Lincoln, NE, where he was with Miller and Paine Dept. Store.  He served as a Lt. in the Navy in WWII.

He was with Younkers Department Stores in Iowa for 37 years as store manager in Fort Dodge, Bettendorf and at Merle Hay Mall, Des Moines.  He retired from the Downtown Younkers store.  He was active in Rotary Club.  He was one of the founders of the Northwest Rotary Club of Des Moines and was a past governor of Rotary International. He and his wife were Parents of the Year at Drake University in 1964.  He was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Des Moines. 

He is survived by his wife; sons, Dick of Columbia, SC, and David of Naples, FL; daughter Jane Kelly of Carisbad, CA; a sister, Betty Nellis of Des Moiens; three grandsons, six great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
