The Life of DALE DUANE JACOBUS

Dale Duane Jacobus, 75, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines. A visitation will be held at Westover Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2005. Funeral service will be at Grand View Lutheran Church, of which he was a member, at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2005.

Dale was born on October 22, 1929 in Waterloo to Robert and Lela Jacobus. Dale attended Waterloo West High School, Drake University and The University of Iowa. He taught for 40 years, including 39 years in the Des Moines Public Schools, and was a member of the Des Moines Education Association, Iowa Education Association and the National Education Association. Dale was a board member and baseball and softball coach in the 1970''s and 1980''s at Beaverdale Little League, and was a follower of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was active at Grand View Lutheran Church, serving on numerous committees and on the Congregational Council. Dale was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, a member of Capital Lodge #110, the York Rite of Freemasonry, and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.

Dale married Marilyn Morris on December 18, 1964, at Grand View Lutheran Church and raised their family in Des Moines. He enjoyed spending time with his family and spent many summers at the ballpark, and camping throughout Iowa and the Midwest. He always maintained an immaculate yard and enjoyed gardening. His license plate, which reads "USAKIDS" was indicative of his love for children.

Dale is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Des Moines; his sons, Larry (Sonja) Jacobus and Todd (Heather) Jacobus, both of Des Moines; and his daughters, Lisa (Rick) Dickhoff of Des Moines and Tina (Clint) Cochran, of Kansas City, Missouri; and nine grandchildren; Dalton, Nile, Alyssa, Cameron, Zachary, Reilly, Olivia, Dakota and Blake. He is also survived by his loving sister, Elizabeth Creighton of Des Moines. Preceding him in death were his mother, father, and his brother, Robert.
