The Life of AMY MAXINE TWISS

Amy was born on Feb. 1, 1920, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Amy died Wednesday, Feb. 27th at the age of 88 at Fleur Heights Care Center where she resided for several years. There she is remembered as a smiling, gracious person who greeted everyone and was grateful for the loving care she received.

Amy retired from United Federal Savings in 1983 where she was an auto-typist. She loved machines and gadgets. Of the new auto typing machine, Amy exclaimed, “I think they are just marvelous.” Amy was a clever lady. She managed Goldbrier Chateau, a 30 plex apartment house for 18 years. She could change out the element on a dryer, and did many times.

Amy is remembered for her light but poignant remarks. Once at the care center with a family member she exclaimed, “Someday I might not remember I’m here.” She loved to laugh, enjoyed raising her four children, Marci Simpson Neary of West Des Moines, Shirley Beggs of Chandler, Arizona, David Twiss (who predeceased her in 1998), and Duane Twiss of Des Moines. They were her babies. Speaking of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Amy exclaimed, “Mothers see the little things, grandmas only see the big things.”

Amy was often stubborn about any given notion, and remarked, “I’m not stubborn, I just have a mind of my own.” And “I may be opinionated and I’m right too!!”

At Amy’s request, she will be cremated and her ashes spread at Lake of the Ozarks because of her fond memories of family vacations spent there.

Cards to the family may be sent to 2024 Elm Circle, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265; emails to endomgr@qwest.net.
