The Life of RICHARD PAUL LEGORE

Richard Paul Legore, 79, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Promise House in Hiawatha, IA.

Richard was born October 29, 1929, to Einar and Mildred Stapleton Legore in Scranton, IA. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1947. He worked as an auto mechanic for 25 years in Scranton and Jefferson. Richard married Muriel Field in 1952. They moved to Des Moines in 1967. He spent the next 25 years working as a mechanic at Pirelli Armstrong Tire and Rubber. They were members of Capitol Hill and the former Central Lutheran Churches. In 2004 he and Muriel moved to Mount Vernon, IA to be closer to his son Tim and family. Rich was a hard working person who enjoyed helping friends, neighbors and relatives. His favorite pastime was working on cars.

Rich is survived by his wife Muriel, of Cedar Rapids, IA; mother, Mildred Legore; daughter Cheri Wilmoski; son Tim (Diane) Legore; brother Larry (Susan) Legore; brother-in-law Al (Betts) Field; sister-in-law Dorothy (Harold) Sundet. His grandchildren include Megan, Kara, and Todd Wilmoski; Stephanie (Greg) Meier; Chris (Sara) Legore; Ben Legore; and great-granddaughter Grace Meier. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many friends. Rich was preceded in death by his father Einar Legore.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 23, 2009 at Hamilton''s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will be Friday from 10 am to 12 noon prior to the service. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Promise House, Hiawatha Care Center, Iowa Hospice, and Dr. Mary Anne Nelson for all their skilled care and compassion they showed to Richard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Promise House or Iowa Hospice.
