The Life of BILLY JOE BOYER

Bill J. Boyer, 80, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011, at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born September 28, 1930, in Chariton, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in June of 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War, 5th Armored Division. Bill was awarded the Korean Service Medal and three Bronze Service Stars. On December 19, 1951, he was united in marriage to Melva Marie Adams. Together they had two daughters. Bill retired in 1992 from Hawkeye Bank, where he served as Vice President for 44 years and four days. He served as Treasurer for the East High School Alumni Association from 1968 to 1999, and received the Hall of Fame Class of 1948 Award. Bill was a member of Baldwin Patterson Post 274 and the Saturday Lunch Bunch. He was also an active member of Miller United Methodist Church, serving on the board as Treasurer and was involved with the Mens Group. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Melva; daughters, Linda (Edward) Cunningham and Lesa (Martin) Davis, both of Urbandale; granddaughters, Lindsey (Mark) Scheibe of Marion, Iowa and Leanne and Jaimie Davis of Urbandale; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Madelyn Scheibe; sister, Peggy Kruse of Indianola; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, followed by a service at 1 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A private family burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Miller United Methodist Church, 3016 E. 13th Street, Des Moines, IA 50316.
