The Life of JOHN OLIVER THORNTON
John O. Thornton Sr., 65, of 8055 Warren Drive died of a heart attack and emphysema Monday at Veterans Hospital in Knoxville. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Thornton was a lifelong Des Moines resident. He retired in 1982 from Koch Brothers Office Equipment Co., where he had worked 31 years, and he was a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann; his mother, J. Blance Thornton; four sons, John O. Jr., Mark, Steven and Larry; a daughter, Doris Messina; and a brother, Richard, all of Des Moines; two sisters, Arline Waldron of Ankeny and Dolores Parks of Kremmling, CO; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at Hamilton''s Funeral Home.
