The Life of EDWIN DOW SLATER

Edwin Dow "Pops" Slater, 77, of the 1600 block of Searle St. died of complications of abdominal surgery Saturday at Des Moines General Hospital.  Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Easton Place United Methodist Church, of which he was a member.  Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Slater lived in Des Moines all his life.  He was a retired painter for the Des Moines public schools and had taught apprentice painters.  He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star.  He enjoyed helping others and had touched many lives.

His is survived by his wife, Myrtle; a daughter, Dianna Alshouse of Des Moines; a son, Ed II of Des Moines; three sisters, Martha Krugel of Ohio, Audrey Smith of Virginia and Margaret Workman of California; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton''s Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
