The Life of EDWARD JAMES SMITH
Edward James Smith, 87, of Des Moines, Iowa died on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Friday September 22, 10 a.m. at Hamilton''s near Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be thursday, Septebmer 21, 2006 at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.
Born on July 29, 1919, to William and Agnes Smith in Melcher, Iowa, Ed lived all his life in Des Moines. Ed served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, the Coast Guard, the Army and the Army National Guard. He retired from the Army National Guard and his job as a mechanic at Camp Dodge in Johnston, IA in 1979.
Ed is survived by his wife Elsie; daughters Marjorie Lois, Linda, Patricia, and Donna; sons Bradley and Randy. Ed enjoyed four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren. He also is survived by one sister, Wilma Clark of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
