The Life of RICHARD RUSSELL MCCARTY

Richard McCarty, 18, son of Mr. & Mrs. Russell McCarty of 3104 Cornell Ave., died at Mercy Hospital Saturday of injuries suffered Thursday when he was pinned against the side of a building by a truck. The McCarty youth was helping to load the truck driven by Donald Allen Sparks, 22, of 2253 SW Ninth St., at the old Curtis school building, SE Sixth and Raccoon streets. Sparks, the McCarty youth and another youth were loading the truck with clothing stored there for Goodwill Industries after a Boy Scout collection drive. Sparks said he didn''t realize the McCarty youth was near the truck when he bagan backing it toward the building. Born in Des Moines, young McCarty was a junior at North High School. He previously attended Washington Irving Junior High School. He was a member of the Highland Park Lutheran Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Highland Park Lutheran Church with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Judy Rice of Detroit, MI; grandmother, Mrs. Hans Rasmussen of Metuchen, NJ; and stepgrandfather, William Samuelson of Des Moines. The family requests that memorials be in the form of contributions to the Highland Park Lutheran Church.
