The Life of DAN PAUL PIPER

Dan Paul Piper, 31, of the 500 block of NW Fifth St. in Ankeny died Sunday at Mercy Medical Center of complication of injuries suffered in a car-pedestrian accident. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady''s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Mr. Piper was born in Des Moines and was a life-long resident of Ankeny. He worked at Movie Gallery in Ankeny. He was a member of the YMCA and ARC of Iowa and was the first person with Down Sydrome to testify before Congress about the Americans with Disabilities Act. He was manager of the Ankeny High School football and wrestling teams from 1988 to 1992. He is survived by his parents, Larry F and Sylvia Piper of Ankeny; and two brothers, Larry of Ankeny and Christopher of West Des Moines. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the chruch. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship for special education students at Ankeny High School. Ankeny Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
