The Life of GEORGE MICKESH

George Mickesh, 87, of Regency Care Center in Norwalk died of a lung ailment Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.  Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Southtown Funeral Home Chapel in Des Moines.  Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery there.

Mr. Mickesh was born in Pocahontas and had lived briefly in Norwalk.  He lived in Des Moines for 65 years, after moving from Marshalltown. He retired after 50 years as an engineer and fireman for the Chicago and Great Western Railroad and was affiliated with Cliffton Heights Presbyterian Church.  He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginmen and was a World War I Army veteran and a World War II Navy veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Dolores Smith of Des Moines; three sons, George of Des Moines, Clarence of San Jose, CA, and Joseph of Pamona Park, FL; a sister, Sadie Kenworthy of Des Moines, eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church.
