The Life of LESTER MAX BACKUS
Lester Max Backus, 83, of Van Meter, died of a heart ailment Sunday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Backus was born in Campbell and had lived in Des Moines before moving to Van Meter 30 years ago. He was a retired machine shop foreman with Meredithh Corp. and a member of Home Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva; two sons, Bryce of Spokane, Wash., and Tom of St. Paul, Neb.; a sister, Vera Williams of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren; and two great-granchidlren.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home in Van Meter. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
