The Life of MARVIN DARRELL VUAGNIAUX

Darrell passed away June 8, 1989.  Services were held at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 6115 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens.  Darrell was born in Boone, Iowa, to Emile and Armedia (Rinehart) Vuagniaux on November 27, 1911.  He was the youngest of their four children.  Darrell graduated from Boone High School and went on to Iowa State College, where he graduated in 1935 with a degree in Microbiology.  His career began in the laboratory at Iowa Methodist Hospital.  Shortly thereafter, he was offered a "better job" at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, where he worked for 42 years until his retirement in 1977.

Darrell met Beulah Porter in Des Moines, Iowa at the United Brothren Church at East 13th and Hull Avenue.  They were married April 22, 1938, in the church parsonage.  Their daughter Sheryl was born in 1946, and their son Tim was born in 1948.

Although Darrell was crippled by polio at the age of seven and walked with a brace on his right leg thereafter, it did not alter his wonderful sense of humor.  He loved music, tinkering under the hood of a car, cooking steak, making garlic lettuce salad, and nuturing hybrid roses.  He was an awesome son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Darrell is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beulah; sister Florence Garrison; son Tim (Sherry) Vuagniaux; daughter Sheryl (Neal) Feuerhelm; grandchildren Corey and Anne Vuagniaux and Brett and Trevor Feuerhelm.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Waldo and his sister Letha.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Bethel Mission.
