Our little Amy came into this world much too early.  I remember she was only 20 weeks old.  One of my first memories of Amy is being asked if I wanted to see her before they transported her from Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines to Mercy hospital's neonatal unit.  I remember how very tiny she was and that her dad, my husband Jack and her neonatal specialist Dr. Sahu explaining to me that Dr. Sahu wasn't sure how she would do, but when she seemed to be a little fighter, taking in oxygen on her own for about 20 minutes, he wanted her transported to the neonatal unit at Mercy hospital.  They could give her the care she needed at Mercy hospital.  Amy was 1 pound, 2 oz. on her birthday.  Prior to me having a minor surgical procedure and being under anethesia, Pastor Wells of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, my church came and baptized Amy.  I'm not sure where I came up with the name, I guess I had a little time to think about it since I was at the hospital a few hours before my doctor and the OB nurse said it was time to have Amy, but I discovered at a later date that Amy's name means the serene or quiet one.  How fitting. They wheeled you away Amy and I was told by my nurse, Bonnie Varland that it's very possible you will be able to get out of the hospital and go and see Amy in the morning or the next day.  So, I really didn't get to hold you until the next day when you were now living in your little home, your incubator.
